JOSEPH SIMONS
Director and Choreographer
A graduate of Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Joseph Simons is a director, choreographer and performer in the forms of ballet, contemporary dance, physical theatre and music theatre. He has created new works for West Australian Ballet, Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Chunky Move, Lucy Guerin Inc., Force Majeure, Queensland University of Technology and Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Joseph’s Director and/or Choreographer credits include the musicals Miss Saigon, Company, Carousel, Peter Pan, The 20’s and All That Jazz and Fame!
After winning Outstanding Emerging Artist at the Australian Dance Awards in 2010, Joseph was selected as the 2013 Tanja Liedtke Fellow to undertake residencies at Ufer Studios, Berlin, the International Choreographic Laboratory, Frankfurt and the Margot Fonteyn Academy of Dance, New York, where he premiered his first full-length solo work, First Things First.
As part of a national 2019/2020 tour, Joseph was most recently seen at Brisbane Powerhouse in a sold-out season of his second solo show titled 100 Years Of The History Of Dance As Told By One Man In 60 Minutes With An Energetic Group Finale.
